When Belle, the beauty wondered into the Beast’s castle she met an animated clock, a cup and a teapot. The mantel clock was named “Cogsworth” and he played a very charming role in the story. Everyone knew the Cogsworth didn’t look like a modern clock. He certainly did not look a clock in any kid’s bedroom. He was nevertheless just as endearing to children.

Cogsworth was a mantel clock, a classic shaped clock more commonly seen in formal homes. Cogsworth after all lived in a castle so it follows that his shape would be one that you would always see on top of fireplaces. Mantel clocks are usually made of hard wood or porcelain. They are placed in a prominent place in the house. It is usually in a room where everyone gathers. These clocks are also often found in formal sitting rooms, cigar rooms and old fashioned offices.

Even before I could identify the numbers in the watch, I was wearing one already. For my ninth birthday I wanted a digital radio alarm clock. It was my first alarm clock. I still remembered it vividly. I chose it from a row of novelty alarm clocks in the mall.

It was a beautiful alarm clock. It had seven different kinds of alarm. It had AM and FM. I still remember setting it in my favorite FM station and waking up to my favorite songs. Even up to now some of my favorite songs were the ones I heard back in 1981. Novelty alarm clocks like the one I had are great items to have.

She lives alone, being widowed at a young age and she didn’t have any children. She always said we, her nephews and nieces, make up for not having kids of her own. Expectedly, she is well-loved by all of us.

This year, my siblings and cousins want to make her birthday extra special. Auntie usually talks about how much a part of her childhood memories their old grandfather clock was. So we really planned on our gift and decided to get her one of those oak grandfather clocks that look like the one they had in our grandparents’ old house.

Imagine a world without time and for sure the world would be in chaos. There would be no way to tell when it’s time to work or go home. There would be no sign if you are late for an appointment. Without it, no one would be able to function effectively.

Time puts everything in it proper place. It holds everything in order. That is why every home has at least one clock in it. Wall clocks are hanged in every room that people usually inhabit. That’s because people respect time. If people didn’t respect time, there would be no indicator when a person should go to the next meeting or when it is time to leave. People would just go with the flow. And as a consequence, people will be accomplishing less.

The first neon light sign in the United States was used by a Packard car dealership in LA. Outdoor signage advertising became a hit. It then became the most effective medium for signs around the world ever since.

The neon clock became one of the more popular applications of neon light. Smaller versions were used to decorate the interior of homes and buildings. It became a popular addition to the game room. Outdoors, giant illuminated electric clocks were installed in tall buildings. Because of its high visibility it was common practice to include neon clocks together with the name of the company in the building front. Structures with this light signage became landmarks in certain locations.
